Bill Wegener

William Thomas "Bill" Wegener, 86 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, surrounded by family at his home. He was born Thursday, March 26, 1936 in Lexington, Missouri, to the late Gilbert Wegener and the late Dorothy Wegener (Owen). He graduated from Higginsville High School - class of 1953. After school he worked on his father’s farm. Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1956 and served his country proudly. He married Violet (McCoy) Wegener on September 12, 1959. They were married 63 wonderful years. Bill started working at Lake City Ammunition Plant in 1963 and gave 30+ years until his retirement. After retirement Bill never slowed down. He continued to help with farming and raised cattle, started a mowing business, sold firewood and corn. Bill continued to be active helping his son, Tommy with different business ventures and was always quick to help when needed. Bill mentored many of the hired hands Tommy had and was always eager to teach and guide the young men. Bill enjoyed spending time with his morning coffee and breakfast buddies. In his later years you would always see Bill enjoying daily drives, cruising in his farm truck. He was a member of the Higginsville American Legion, the Corder VFW, and Friends of the Confederate. He attended the Grace United Methodist Church in Higginsville. Bill was a staple in this community, he knew everyone and everyone knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and this entire community. Surviving are his wife, Violet of the home; one son, Thomas (Tammy) Wegener of Higginsville; one daughter, Tammie (Paul) Mahnken of Higginsville; eight grandchildren, Tucker (Paige) Wegener of Bismark, MO, Taegan Wegener of Higginsville, Ben Myrick of Higginsville, Bradley (Allie) Myrick of Bryan, TX, Steven Mahnken of Higginsville, Joseph (Laura) Mahnken of Republic, MO, Emily Mahnken of Higginsville, Chris Devall of Oak Grove, MO; seven great-grandchildren, Owen Myrick, Violet Myrick, Lillian Mahnken, Finan Wegener, Eleanor Mahnken, Macy Devall, Zion Devall; two nieces, Danalyn Goodloe, and Monica Picket. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna Jenkins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home 1600 Main St. Higginsville, MO. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home with Glenn Pragman officiating. Interment will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Casket Bearers: Tucker Wegener, Ben Myrick, Bradley Myrick, Owen Myrick, Steven Mahnken, Joseph Mahnken. Honorary Casket Bearers: Ralph Miller, Larry Smith, Don Bartley, Bob Thompson, Roger Erdman, Russell Hughes, David Atkins. Memorial contributions may be made out to the Alzheimer's Association.
