Beverly Mackie

Beverly Jane Mackie (Griffel), 79 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. She was born Wednesday, May 27, 1942 in Alma, Missouri, to the late Alfred Griffel and the late Leona Griffel (Moore). Beverly was a graduate of the Higginsville High School - Class of 1960. She married William “Bill” Mackie on October 12, 1968 and spent the next 53 years together, until his passing on July 30, 2021. Beverly was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, although she attended First Baptist Church in Higginsville. In her younger years she worked for Hallmark Cards, the Garment Factory, and Douglas Cable. She began working for the Higginsville Advance in 1987 and would remain there for the next 34 years as the General Manager. Beverly loved cooking and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She would always support Bill's passion for racing and was his number one fan attending all of his events. She was a diehard Chiefs fan, loved getting her nails done, enjoyed playing cards, and loved a good scratch off ticket. Beverly was one of a kind and she always made you feel right at home. Every stranger was a friend within seconds. She will be undoubtedly missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are one son, William "Billy" H. Mackie, Jr.; two daughters, Janet (Tim) Evert of Warrensburg, MO, Kaylene Bird of Blue Springs, MO; one brother, Harold (Ruth) Griffel of Higginsville; two granddaughters, Ava Mackie and Ella Mackie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; one brother, Eugene Griffel; three sisters, Waneta Franklin, Marie Gassen and Alice Miller. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home located at 1600 Main Higginsville, MO. A funeral service will be held at 10AM on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Greg Fine officiating. Interment will follow in the Higginsville City Cemetery. Casket Bearers: Doug Booker, Tim Evert, Bob Gibson, Harold Griffel, Kevin Griffel, Billy Mackie. Memorial contributions can be made to Lafayette County Cancer Coalition or the Higginsville Senior Center.
