Carl Dean Baker

Carl Dean Baker, 83 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Riverbend Heights Health & Rehabilitation in Lexington, Missouri. Born Wednesday, March 11, 1931 in Shambaugh, Iowa, he was the son of the late Preston Baker and the late Laura Holloway Baker. He lived in the Higginsville area most of his life. He worked as a self employed farmer and also was a truck driver for numerous individuals and businesses until retiring in 2003. Mr. Baker served in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving from June 18, 1952 until his discharge on June 17, 1954 from Camp Stoneman, California. He earned the rank as Corporal. He married Ruth A. Marsh on December 27, 1971. Preceded in death are two sons, Jeffrey and Donald Baker, one infant daughter, and one brother, Donald Baker. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1950, was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the Higginsville American Legion Post #223. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Baker, of the home; sons, Jimmy Shier of Higginsville, MO, Jerry (Cindy) Shier of Higginsville, MO and Jeff (Kris) Shier of Higginsville, MO, daughter, Janet (Jim) Brandon of Oak Grove, MO, brothers, Robert (Janice) Baker of Odessa, MO and Ronald Baker of Independence, MO, sister, Delores (Henry) Struchtemeyer of Mayview, MO; 9 grand children; 13 great grand children. A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Salem United Church of Christ located at 1500 N. Main St. Higginsville, Missouri 64037 with the Rev. Dr. Tommy L. Faris officiating and Doris Jane Stoner as organist. Interment with military honors will be in the City Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. Pallbearers are Jason Meinershagen, Kenny Shier, Scott Baker, Josh Shier, Andy Leak, Randy Routon, Michael Newland and Andy Homfeld. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville, Missouri.
