Clara Marie Werning

Clara Marie Werning, 85 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Born Monday, January 5, 1931 in Mayview, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late August Begemann and the late Emma Fiegenbaum Begemann. Clara was a lifelong resident of Higginsville. She married Elmer Charles Werning on November 29, 1952. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, the Church Women's Circle and American Legion Auxiliary. She worked as a secretary, bookkeeper and proofreader at the Higginsville Advance, also worked for Supersweet Feeds in Higginsville and she was an order clerk for Dunbrooke Manufacturing in Lexington until she retired in 1993. She spent may fun years as a member of the local theatre group and enjoyed playing cards, going out to eat, cooking, trailoring with her husband, gardening, sewing, doing volunteer work and socializing with her many friends. She never missed watching a Royals or Chief's game. Surviving are one daughter, Susan (Bob) Shier of Parkville, MO; daughter in law Marsha Werning of Prairie Village, KS; one brother, Martin (Bessie) Begemann of Higginsville; two sisters, Edna Ann Struchtemeyer and Grace Werning both of Higginsville; 2 grandchildren, Tatiana (Craig) Stout and Blake Shier; 2 great grandchildren, Jack and Maren Stout; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her husband Elmer; one son, Michael Werning; one daughter, Cheryl Osborne; 2 brothers, August W. and Edward Begemann; four sisters, Irene Knehans, Ruby Fleischmann, Emmaline Janke and Lydia Jaecke: one grandson Jeremy Osborne. A Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday at Salem United Church of Christ with the Rev.Dr. Tommy L. Faris officiating, Doris Jane Stoner, organist. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Hoefer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to Lafayette County Cancer Coalition or Salem United Church of Christ Casket bearers are Blake Shier, Donald Knehans, Bill Begemann, Paul Werning, Craig Stout and Andrew Werning.
