Donald R. Tyler

Donald Richard Tyler, 79 of Concordia, Missouri passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Concordia. He was born Saturday, April 12, 1941 in Lee's Summit, Missouri, and was the son of the late John Tyler and the late Helen (McKenzie) Tyler Neff. Donald graduated high school in Sweet Springs, Missouri, class of 1958. He married Kathryn (Julian) Tyler on May 15, 1976, she preceded him in death on July 5, 2018. They were married 42 wonderful years. Donald worked as a surveyor and inspector for the United States Army Corps of Engineers for 32 years before his retirement. He loved this work where ever it took him; whether in Alaska or the lower 48. He was at his element when outdoors with nature. He enjoyed working in the watersheds and wetlands of the Missouri River. Donald moved to Higginsville in 1989 and lived here most his life. He was a member of the Higginsville Masonic Lodge 364. He also attended the Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking nature trails, and just exploring this beautiful country. He loved taking family trips and traveling. He and Kathryn enjoyed traveling all the lower 48 states and Alaska. His last trip was hiking in the Appalachian Mountains. Donald loved family just as much as he loved the outdoors. He coached baseball for his son during his youth and took care of his wife as her health failed from a long battle with cancer. Donald is finally with Kathryn again and at peace. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are two sons, Richard Tyler of Blue Springs, MO and James (Tabatha) Patterson of Higginsville, MO; two brothers, Dave (Geniece) Tyler of Osage Beach, MO and Bob (Mary) Tyler of Gladstone, MO; one granddaughter, Lilly Patterson. He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Kathryn Tyler. A graveside service with burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 9, 2020 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dunksburg, located at 951 NE State Highway NN Sweet Springs, Missouri 65351 with Rev. Terry Cook officiating. Because of current health conditions, masks and social distancing are highly encouraged.
