Eileen RosaMay Meyer

Eileen Meyer (94) passed away on March 8, 2025 at Shirkey Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Missouri. Eileen was born on February 24, 1931 in Edwards, Missouri to Otis and Irene Smith. She grew up attending a one room schoolhouse in the Ozark area. The family moved to Stover for a brief time and then settled in Higginsville in 1946 where she met the love of her life, Paul R. “Duke” Hartwig in her senior year. She graduated in 1947. They married in March of 1948. Eileen and Duke were married 28 years until his passing in 1976. They were blessed with 5 children. They spent many weekends with family and friends at their Fourthview, Missouri lake house. Eileen was born and raised in the area. She enjoyed outdoor nature activities with Duke and their children. She excelled as a homemaker, expressing her talents through gardening, crochet, and embroidery. Her baby blankets are prized among friends and family. Later in life, she donated her crochet work to the church and the NICU. She also had a great love for all kinds of flowers. In September of 1979, Eileen was married to Hobart O. “Hobie” Meyer, in Concordia. They were married for 37 years until his passing in 2016. Eileen dearly loved to travel, even though she had never gotten her driver's license. Hobie was happy to drive her on their many adventures from the Ozarks, Branson, the Amana Colonies in Iowa, Tennessee, Florida and several states out west. Eileen was a wonderful cook and hosted many get-togethers and holidays where her family was able to enjoy her homemade chili, noodles and famous meatloaf. She was always willing to babysit, and the younger great-grandkids began to call her Grandma Hobie. Eileen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Higginsville, where she was baptized in 2012, by Rev. Greg Fine. She enjoyed visits from Rev. Fine and Dennis Million. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Irene Smith; her sister, Betty (Coy) Yount; her husband, Paul R. “Duke” Hartwig; second husband, Hobart O. “Hobie” Meyer; son, Ronald P. Hartwig; great-granddaughters, Micah Faith Thomas and Chloe Shannon Branson. Surviving Eileen are: daughters, Vickie (Charles) Findley, Donna (Kenny) Swofford, Sandra (Larry) Branson, Debbie (Robert) Gibler; daughter-in-law, Treva Hartwig; stepchildren, Karen Kay (Jim) Summerville and Stanford (Connie) Meyer. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 1907 Peach St., Higginsville, Missouri. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Brand Cemetery in Higginsville. Casket bearers: Grandsons - Donald Gibler, Jarrod Gibler, Kevin Branson, Michael Branson. Robert Branson, Steven Branson, Joel Meyer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Baptist Church of Higginsville or a charity of your choice.
