Ellis Barker

Ellis Wayne Barker, 78 of Warrensburg, Missouri passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg. He was born Tuesday, October 29, 1946 in Warrensburg, to Cecil W. Barker and Allene (Kessner) Barker and was adopted at three days old by his uncle and aunt, Ezra Barker and Emma (Brown) Barker. Ellis was a graduate of Lafayette County C-1-Class of 1965. He married Wannetta (Turner) Barker on May 24, 1969, at the Central Christian Church in Higginsville. They spent the next wonderful 55 years together. Wannetta survives of the home. Ellis went to work directly after high school in the maintenance department for the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg and continued that career for 33 years. Ellis was an avid civil war and history buff. He and his family traveled all over the country to different battle sites and cemeteries. He enjoyed the Chiefs and Royals, never missing the chance to root for his teams. He was a “car guy” who loved talking about racing and cars with his brothers. They enjoyed going to car shows as well. He was a family man that loved talking to his grandkids and calling all his family members every week. Every day when he would get up, he wanted to know the weather and the price of gas. He enjoyed growing up in Higginsville and loved talking about the good ole days. Ellis will be greatly missed by all his friends and family. Surviving is his wife, Wannetta Barker; two daughters, Melissa (Jay) Hall of Warrensburg and Amanda (Jason) Singleton of Aurora, IL; six grandchildren, Jessica (Skyler) Myers, Kimberly Wells (Andrew McGarry), Alexis Singleton, Haley Singleton (Utku Apaydin), Graham Singleton, Ashford Singleton; one great-grandchild, Flynn A. Myers. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold Barker, Ronnie Barker, Darold Barker; and two sisters, Janet Pittman and Darleen Cannady. Interment will be held on his birthday, Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in the Higginsville City Cemetery. Memorials may be made out to the Old Drum Animal Shelter or the Warrensburg Cats Advocates in honor of Ellis' love for cats.
