Freda Maxine Simpson

Freda Maxine Simpson (Woodell), 76 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. She was born Saturday, March 3, 1945 in Low Gap, Arkansas and was the daughter of the late Stonewall Jackson Woodell and the late Alma Woodell (Villines). She was the 6th of 12 children and attended high school in Harrison, Arkansas. She married Oscar Simpson on September 7, 1962, and from this union they had 4 children. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2002, and they spent 40 happy years together. In 1986 union work brought Freda and Oscar to Higginsville. Freda worked as a housekeeper for the Higginsville Habilitation Center for 20+ years until her retirement. She was an avid reader and even spent some time working as a librarian. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, oil painting, crocheting and doing crafts. Freda's attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship allowed her to build a doll house and real doll house furniture for her daughter. Freda enjoyed creating things and staying busy. Family always came first for Freda. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family that she loved so much. Surviving are one son, Rickey Simpson of Higginsville; two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Reed of Kingsville, MO, Deborah Wegener of Higginsville; one brother, Bobby (Martha) Woodell of Valley Springs, AR; four sisters, Barbara Furton of Ionia, MI, Sue (Phillip) Ewing of Harrison, AR, Faye (Ronnie) Martin of Vendor, AR, Jackie Smith of Valley Springs; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar; one son, Ronald Simpson; three brothers, Glen Woodell, Ray Woodell, Howard Woodell; three sisters, Mildred Bauer, Edith Duck and Ruth Saunders. The family will receive friends from 1PM-2PM on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home located at 1600 Main Higginsville, MO. A funeral service will follow at 2PM and interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Casket Bearers: Rickey Simpson, Chris Simpson, Theo Simpson, CJ Wegener, Scott Wegener, Curtis Wegener. Honorary Casket Bearers: William Perkins, Mark Perkins, Robert Reed, Rachel Wegener. Memorial contributions can be made out to Family Choice.
