Janet Fisher

Janet Arlene Fisher, 74 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at her home surrounded by family. She was born Saturday, March 30, 1946 in Peoria, Illinois, and was the daughter of the late George Penn and Bernice "Arlene" Penn (Welsh). Janet grew up in Farmington, Illinois but left school early to help care for the family farm. She married Don Fisher on December 28, 1963 while he was in the military. They were married 57 wonderful years. After Don's military service, they moved back to Higginsville in 1968. Janet and Don worked side by side to continue the family legacy of Fisher's Furniture, supplying the community and surrounding areas with furniture. Janet handled the cleaning of the store, ordering inventory, clerical, and even sales until her retirement in 2016. She loved working in the store and helping customers furnish their homes. She would visit with customers and help them make selections; she truly enjoyed serving this community as a local business owner with her husband. She enjoyed cooking, hosting family gatherings, and going on family vacations. Although the business took up a lot of their time, nothing was more important to Janet than her family. Janet will be remembered as a loving wife to her husband, dedicated mother to her children, and doting Nana to her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Surviving are her husband, Don of the home; one son, Scott (Chari) Fisher of Higginsville; one sister, Georgina (Ray) Bitner of Peoria, IL; one grandson, Zach (Shelby) Fisher of Higginsville; one granddaughter, Ashley (Michael) Brown of Huntsville, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, DaMonte' Fisher, Madison McCandless, and Henry Fisher. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gregory Fisher; two brothers, Jeff Penn and Rick Penn. She will be lying in repose for viewing, from 4PM to 8PM on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Grace United Methodist Church. The family will host a visitation to receive friends from 4PM to 8PM on Friday, October 2, 2020 at their home located at 19080 Bell Rd. Higginsville. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Goughnour officiating. Interment will follow in the City Cemetery. Casket Bearers: Jeff Bates, Daitrien Buchanan, Kenny Gassen, David Lewis, Scott Rasa, Todd Ware. Honorary Casket Bearers: Elden Knipmeyer and Terry McCormack. Memorial contributions may be made to Garrett Moore Memorial FFA Scholarship. Because of current health conditions, masks and social distancing are highly encouraged.
