Janet E. Lewis

Janet E. Lewis, age 78 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville. Born Friday, August 21, 1936 in Higginsville, she was the daughter of the late Roy Louis Hilgedick and the late Inez Rovella (Knipmeyer) Hilgedick. She and Benjamin R. Lewis were united in marriage on August 14, 1955. Janet was a homemaker and later worked as a secretary at Missouri Valley Human Resources Agency retiring in 2001. She was a lifelong resident of the Higginsville and Corder area. She was a 1954 graduate of Higginsville High School and a member of Corder Presbyterian Church, Corder, Missouri. She was a charter member of Preceptor Delta Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Lafayette Co. Democrat Club. Janet enjoyed needlepoint, embroidery and scrapbooking even before it became a well-known hobby. Surviving are her husband, Ben Lewis of Higginsville; one son, David (Kim) Lewis of Higginsville; two daughters, Margaret (Tim) Thurmon and Sara (Bob) Gibson, both of Higginsville; one brother, Dale Hilgedick of Higginsville; and eleven grandchildren, Kerri (Tim) Barnes, Ashley (Mark) Renken, Trent Thurmon, Timothy Lewis, Emily Lewis, Matthew Gibson, Katie Gibson, Brian Gibson, Tim Gibson, Jeff Gibson and Brett Gibson. A Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Corder Presbyterian Church, 403 N. Main St. Corder with Rev. Douglas Sprouse officiating, Janet Ritzinger as organist and Vonnie Page as vocalist. Interment will be in the Corder Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville, The Family suggests Memorial contributions to Corder Calvary Cemetery Association or Lafayette County Cancer Coalition.
