Barbara K. Shields Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Barbara K. Shields, age 90, of Higginsville, Missouri died on Monday, January 2, 2012, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. Born Thursday, September 8, 1921 in Higginsville, Missouri she was the daughter of the late Edgar James Helliker and the late Mary Elizabeth (Beck) Helliker. Mrs. Shields lived in Higginsville most of her life and was a homemaker, after working as a clerk at the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Higginsville and a member of the Altar Society. She married Clyde A. Shields on December 26, 1944. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2003. Also preceded in death was son, Curtis J. Shields, and one sister, Geneva. Surviving are sons, Dennis A. (Rebecca) Shields of Leawood, Kansas and Timothy K. Shields of Higginsville; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, and one brother, James C. (Patricia) Helliker of Houston, Texas. A Memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 401 W. Broadway St. Higginsville with Father Tom Hawkins, celebrant, Virginia Graham, organist and Evelyn Elmore, vocalist. Inurnment will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Friday at the Church.
