Curt Randall Gockel

Curt Randall Gockel, age 67 of Gardner, Kansas died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, Curt was born October 1, 1942 in Seneca, Kansas; he was the son of the late John Gockel and Genevieve Siess Gockel. He lived in Baileyville, Kansas until age 13 when his family moved to Seneca. He also lived briefly in Higginsville Missouri, and lived most of his life in the Kansas City area. Curt was of the Catholic faith. He graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School in Seneca and received his Bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in 1964. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He taught high school in North Kansas City, worked for Martin Marietta in Denver Colorado and the J.C. Penney Co. He served in the Kansas National Guard. Curt was active in tennis and basketball as well as an avid fan of professional baseball, basketball and of the St. Louis Cardinals. Surviving are his mother Genevieve Gockel of Spring Hill Kansas; brothers, Keith & Wife Jennifer Gockel of Thousand Oaks, California; Lance & Wife Marie Gockel of Shawnee, Kansas; and Bruce & Wife Rebecca Gockel of Overland Park, Kansas; sisters, Linda & Husband Larry Levret of Overland Park; Sheila & Husband George Porter of Overland Park; and Brenda Munkres of Higginsville. He was preceded in death by his father, John Gockel and his sister, Tura Gockel Sommerville. The Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Higginsville with the Father Thomas Hawkins officiating and Virginia Graham as organist. Inurnment will be in the City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Church.
