Dorothy Marie Nieman, 94 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Friday, January 15, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Born Saturday, August 13, 1921 in Lexington, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late August Walter and the late Annette Hackman Luehrman. She was a 1939 graduate of Lexington High School then moved to the Higginsville area in 1940. She married Max W. Nieman on June 25, 1942. Dorothy was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, a member of the Higginsville GFWC women's club, Higginsville Red Hatters, American Legion Auxiliary, Women's Fellowship of the Church, she also served on the Board of Elders and was a former Bible School and Sunday School Teacher of the church. Surviving are one son, Don (Betty) Nieman of Corder; one daughter, Mary (Douglas) Kempfe of Alma; 8 grandchildren, Tammie (Chris) Winter, Julie (Joe) Ravasini, Jennifer (Russ) Swingle, Jamie Kempfe, Jill Faes, Jenise (Wade) Hepner, Jeffrey Nieman and friend Amanda Long, Jonathan (Bethany) Kempfe; 11 great grandchildren John Winter, Katelyn, Elizabeth And Andrew Ravasini, Paige, Benjamin and Chase Swingle, Carson Faes, Carter, Caleb and Logan Hepner. She is preceded in death by her husband, one brother Walter W. Luehrman and one sister Katherine Busch Dryer. A Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Salem United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Tommy L. Faris officiating, Doris Jane Stoner, organist, Jenise Hepner, flutist, Katelyn Ravasini, pianist and Elizabeth Ravasini, vocalist. Interment will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Hoefer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Higginsville American Legion Auxiliary or Salem United Church of Christ . Casket bearers are grandsons. Honorary casket bearers are granddaughters.
