Floyd Gale Elmore, age 69 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. He was born on Sunday, January 6, 1952 in Marshall, Missouri, and was the son of the late Martin Lane Elmore Sr. and late Mamie (Fectic) Elmore. Floyd grew up in Higginsville, MO and attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Higginsville. He was a graduate of Lafayette County C-1 High School - class of 1970, where he played basketball and ran track. Floyd married Sherry Fields on October 8, 1979 and from this union two sons were born. Floyd worked as a Skilled Laborer for Local Union #1290, KC Concrete and Asphalt, was a supervisor for Bruenings Nursery and Marshall Evergreen, and did other concrete and landscaping jobs for himself. Floyd loved playing and watching basketball and football. He played town team basketball with his brothers and friends. He also never missed any of his sons’ basketball games, football games, or track meets. He loved playing his guitar and singing, was an avid pool player, and was a competitive guy who could meet any challenge. Floyd was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a mentor to a lot of young men and was always willing to help anyone. He was a man of many words and always spoke his mind. Surviving are his wife, Sherry (Fields) Elmore of the home; two sons, Floyd Levell Elmore and Antonio Antwuan Elmore both of Independence, MO; five brothers, Earl (Alice) Elmore of Higginsville, Rev. Glenn (Rev. Evelyn) Elmore of Higginsville; Lynn Elmore of Oak Grove, MO, Burt (Cara) Elmore of Higginsville, Ronald (Tanya) Elmore of North Kansas City, MO; three sisters, Mamie A. Turner of Maryland Heights, MO, Myrlon D. Edwards of Lee’s Summit, MO, Mary C. (Ernest) Williams of Higginsville; mother-in-law, Mable (Fields) Jackson; four grandchildren, Elise, Elena, Rhys and Reagan; many nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Martin and Mamie Elmore; three brothers, Martin L. Elmore Jr, Ottie L. Elmore, Freddie Wayne Elmore; two sisters, Clara L. (Elmore) Lee, and Willie M. Elmore (infant). A funeral service to celebrate Floyd’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Salem United Church of Christ, Higginsville with his brother, Rev. Glenn Elmore officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 11AM-1PM. Assisting in the services: musician, Bruce Kerr, and vocalists, Evangelist Janice Elmore, F. Levell Elmore, Rev. Evelyn Elmore, and Myrlon Foster. Interment will follow in the Higginsville City Cemetery. A repast will be held after burial in the Benton Hall, located at 1806 Walnut St. Higginsville, MO 64037. Memorials may be made out to Sherry Elmore or Hoefer Funeral Home and mailed to 1600 Main St. Higginsville, MO 64037 to help assist the family with medical and funeral expenses. Casket Bearers: David Williams, Ernest Williams Jr, Brandon Haynes, James Williams, Dustin Elmore, Earl M. Elmore, Donald Elmore and Devin Haynes. Honorary Casket Bearers: Marion Gant, Clarence Gant, Harvey Williams, Earl Walters, Kevin Gann, Michael Elmore Sr., Marvin Elmore, and Floyd Love.
