Frances P. Brokaw Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Frances P.(Palmer) Brokaw, age 86, of Lexington, Missouri., formerly of Higginsville, Missouri., died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Higginsvile, Missouri. She was also a member of the Higginsville American Legion Auxiliary and Higginsville Rebekah Lodge. She was born October 17, 1922 in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of the late Roland Palmer and the late Evanell (Lehman) Palmer. Frances was a 1940 High School graduate of Higginsville where she lived most of her life, moving to Lexington in 2008. She worked as a seamstress at the Higginsville Garment Factory, then served as deputy county clerk for the Lafayette Co. Clerk's Office, retiring in 1979. She married Milton S. Heldt March 8, 1941. He preceded her in death July 12, 1967. Also preceded in death are three brothers Robert, Harold and Leroy Palmer. Frances was a Foster Grandparent for many years in the Lafayette Co. C-1 School District. She loved to bowl in a local women's league and bowled in tournaments as well. Frances also enjoyed watching all types of sporting events on television and loved to cook and bake. Her family especially remembers the homemade candy she made. She is survived by her one daughter, Sharon Wampler and husband Jim of Higginsville, Missouri; one son, Robert Allen Heldt and wife Karen of Gilbert, Arizona; two sisters, Dora M. Cassity and husband Frank of Billings, Montana; Dorothy I. Dredge of Maryville, Missouri; one brother, Dean F.(Jeannette) Palmer of Marville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Derk Wampler and wife Shelli; Sherrice Wampler; Holly Ellerman and husband Chris; ffve great-grandchildren, Marjorie Nachelle Zehnder Wampler, Jacob Thomas Wampler, Riley Kaitlyn Wampler, Ethan Andrew Ellerman and Abbigail Rose Ellerman. Arrangements are being handled by Hoefer Funeral Home, Inc. The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church in Higginsville and funeral services will follow at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Kyle Evans will officiate with Sharon Pragman, organist and Sandy Starkebaum, vocalist. Interment will be at the City Cemetery. The family sugggests memorials to the Arthritis Foundation or Foster Grandparent Program.
