July 27, 1935 - May 4, 2012

Helen Bird, age 76 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Friday, May 4, 2012, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, Missouri. Born Saturday, July 27, 1935 in Concordia, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Albert Marsh and the late Vida Pauline (Young) Marsh. She married Daniel Bird June 19, 1955. He preceded her in death April 24, 2005. Helen lived most of her life in Higginsville and was a 1953 Higginsville High School graduate. She worked as a bank teller at Bank of America in Higginsville, then worked at Lake City Arsenal and then First Central Bank before retiring in 1996. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and Mary Martha Circle of the church, former member of Higginsvillle Jaycee Wives, the Higginsville Red Hatters and the Higginsville Business & Professional Women's Club. Surviving are son, Doug (Teresa) Bird of Higginsville, MO, daughter, Kathy Bird of Higginsville; sisters, Ruth (Dean) Baker of Higginsville and Linda Stanley of Kansas City, Missouri; 5 grand children, Chase (Whitney) Gilmore, Tara Bird, Greighton (Tabitha) Short, Megan (Clint) Wood and Graham Padley; 5 great grand children, Gabriel Short, Regan & Owen Wood, Stryker & Harper Gilmore. She was also predeceased by brother, Cecil Marsh and sister, Verna Alexander. There will be a Funeral Service Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ, 1500 Main, Higginsville with Interment in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville. Memorial contributions may be sent to Lafayette County Cancer Coalition, P.O. Box 88 Higginsville, Missouri 64037 or Crossroads Hospice Casketbearers are Clint Wood, Chase Gilmore, Grady Short, Graham Padley, Jeff Shier, and Jerry Shier.
