Laura Mae Rechterman, age 99 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville. Born Monday, February 16, 1914 on a farm between Mayview and Higginsville, she was the daughter of Benjamin Sander and Maymie (Kincheloe) Sander. She attended Douthit rural school. As a young woman she worked at Lake City Arsenal as an inspector. She married Ernest C. Rechterman on October 6, 1946 in Witchita, Kansas. They made their home on the family farm north of Higginsville until retirement in 1983, when they moved tow Higginsville. In 1994 they moved into John Knox Village. Ernest died on January 16, 1996. Also preceding her in death are her parents, one brother, Hubert Sander of Derby, Kansas; and one son, Ernest C. Rechterman, Jr., born October 30, 1948 and who died December 30, 1977. The Rechtermans were longtime members of Salem United Church of Christ. They enjoyed bowling and playing cards with several different clubs over the years. Laura Mae was a member of the Page City Extension Club. She loved cooking, always trying new recipes. Her mother taught her to quilt as a young girl and she produced many beautiful quilts during her life. She is survived by one brother, Virgil Sander of Wichita, Kansas; daughter-in-law Judy Rechterman of Lee's Summit, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Hoefer Chapel, 1600 N. Main St., Higginsville with Pastor Betty Thaller officiating, . Interment will be in Zion Cemetery, Mayview, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Mercy Hospital or the Lafayette County Cancer Coalition.
