Maurice H. Hoefer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Maurice H. Hoefer, age 93 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, Missouri. Born Wednesday, September 1, 1920 in Higginsville, he was the son of the late Albert G. Hoefer and the late Lula (Rinne) Hoefer. He and Wilma M. Opfer were married November 10, 1943. Maurice was a graduate of Higginsville High School and lived in rural Mayview and Higginsville all of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945 during World War II, ranking Electrician's Mate First Class. He worked as a farmer and was the first no-till farmer in Lafayette County. Woodworking became a favorite hobby of his for a number of years before and after his retirement. He was a lifetime member of Higginsville American Legion Post #223 and Higginsville V.F.W. He was also a member of Farm Bureau and Salem United Church of Christ in Higginsville . Surviving are his wife, Wilma M. Hoefer of the home in Higginsville; one son, Wayne (Joyce) Hoefer of Mayview, Missouri, two daughters, Elaine (Pel) Adams of Columbia, Missouri and Sharon Hoefer of Higginsville; one sister, Helen Bergsieker of Higginsville; three grandchildren, Robert (Amy) Hoefer, Amanda (Scott) Hoeppner, Elizabeth (William) Ogan; and six great grandchildren, Matthew Elder, Adam Hoefer, Alyssa Hoefer, Calle Hoeppner, Trey Hoeppner, and Adalyn Ogan. A Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Salem United Church of Christ, 1500 N. Main St. Higginsville with Rev. Dr. Tommy L. Faris officiating, Doris Jane Stoner as organist and David Salyer as vocalist. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Higginsville. The family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville. The Family suggests Memorial contributions to Salem United Church of Christ Memorial Fund or Higginsville Food Pantry. Pallbearers are Robert Hoefer, Scott Hoeppner, William Ogan, Matthew Elder, Adam Hoefer and Terry Kirchhoff. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Schemmer, Roger Erdman, Earl Struchtemeyer, Howard Fisher, Leland Rinne and Rev. Glenn Nowack.
