Virgil H. Koch

Virgil H. Koch, age 85 of Odessa, Missouri died on Monday, August 18, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Odessa, Missouri. Born Thursday, July 18, 1929 in Bay, Missouri, he was the son of the late Henry Edwin Koch and the late Leona Marie (Rauter) Koch. He and Verneal C. Winter were united in marriage on April 29, 1951. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and a member of Zion's Men's Fellowship in Mayview, Missouri. He also volunteered with the local Habitat for Humanity and became an honorary board member of New Life Home in Mayview after many years of service on the board. He was a graduate of the class of 1947 at Higginsville High School. Virgil was a farmer and also worked for the County road District until retiring in 2008. He moved from Mayview to Odessa in 1980. Preceding him in death are his parents, one daughter, Carol Louise Koch; and one step-daughter, Dorothy Sue Parks. Surviving are his wife, Verneal Koch of Odessa, one son, Vernon (Kimberly) Koch of Odessa; two daughters: Sharon (Donald) Hotmer of Odessa and Janet (Ron) Johnson of Plano, Texas; one sister; Annie Marie Fiegenbaum of Higginsville, Missouri; 7 grandchildren, Travis (Laura) Parks, Kristin (Don) Myers, Brian Smith, Dena (Brad) Faith, Tisha (Allen) Ostermeyer, Makenzie Koch, and Dalton Koch; seven great grandchildren, Isaac, Anabelle & Everett Faith, Johnathon & Allie Ostermeyer, Aidan & Flynn Myers. A Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday August 23, 2014 at Zion United Church of Christ, 105 N. Mary St. Mayview, Missouri with the Pastor Kristin Aardema Faigh officiating and Teresa Begemann as organist. Interment will be in Zion Cemetery, Mayview. The family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville. Memorial contributions may be sent to Zion United Church of Christ or New Life Home in Mayview. Casketbearers are Brad Faith, Allen Ostermeyer, Dalton Koch, Ron Johnson, Kenneth Fiegenbaum, Wayne Fiegenbaum, James Fiegenbaum and John Fiegenbaum.
