Virginia Gray

July 9, 1926 - August 30, 2015

Virginia Gray, 89, of Higginsville, Missouri died on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, Missouri. Born Friday, July 9, 1926 in Carrollton, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Frank Gilbert Tweedie and the late Carrie Lou Booker Tweedie. She married William N. Gray, Sr. on June 21, 1952, he preceded her in death on March 27, 1988. Also preceding her in death are one brother Thomas Isles Tweedie and one great granddaughter Alexus Daiker. Mrs. Gray received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from The University of Missouri/Columbia in 1948. Living most of her life in Higginsville, she was very active in the community and a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church serving as an elder and a Sunday School teacher. Virginia was also a member of Higginsville Optimist Club, Chamber of Commerce, P.E.O. Chapter #E.K., Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Friends of the Confederate Chapel and a member of the Community Betterment organization. During her career at Citizens Telephone Company she held the position as Assistant Manager and also served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the company's Board of Directors. She retired from Citizens on December 31, 1993. Surviving are son, William N. (Lori) Gray, Jr. of Higginsville, MO, daughter, Jane Tweedie Scott of Higginsville, MO. Five grandchildren; Holly (Jamale) Wilcox, William T. (Lacey) Gray, Kerri S. Gray, Jennifer (Matt) Parks and Caleb T. Scott; nine great grandchildren; Nicholas Wilcox, Brock W. Wilcox, Cora L. Wilcox, Kenadie J. Gray, William Weston I. Gray, Gabrial Daiker, William M. Parks, Landon D. Parks and Arianna R. Scott. A Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with the Pastor Tim Biesemeyer and Rev. Joe Carle officiating. Music will be provided by Melody Coen, organist and Dennis Million, vocalist. Interment will be in the Higginsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mike Shafer, David Shafer, Brian Cornelius, Jack Beale, Wendell Starkebaum and Mark Zeikle. Honorary pallbearers are Norris Wahler, Harvey Erdman, Ramey Zeikle, Dale Ritter, James Wood, A.J. Giorza, Howard Fisher and Jim Heitmeyer. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville, Missouri.
