Wilbert "W.W." Kirchhoff, age 87, of Higginsville, Missouri, died on Monday, January 24, 2011, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg. Born Thursday, August 9, 1923 in Blackburn, Missouri, he was an only child of Ralph Kirchhoff and Anna Borchers Kirchhoff. He was a graduate of Blackburn High School. W.W. married Mary Thomas April 18, 1947 in Blackburn, & served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Japan from 1945-1946, ranking as Corporal. He worked in car sales, was a K.C. Star carrier, & most recently was employed as a bank courier before his retirement in 2006. An avid fisherman and bowler, W.W. was a member of the American Legion Post #223 for over 60 years, Corder VFW Post #4288, a past Mason, & sang with Harmony Eight. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ where he served on the Board of Elders and sang in the church choir. W.W. was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Mary Kirchhoff of the home in Higginsville; sons, Rodney (Ricki) Kirchhoff of Higginsville, Eric (Gail) Kirchhoff of Higginsville, & Jeff (Denise) Kirchhoff of Higginsville; daughter, Kathleen (Dave) Gallagher of Odessa, Missouri; grandchildren, Jessica (James) Pratt, Justin Reider, Cammi (Justin) Moore, Cory Gallagher, Jeremy (Heather) Kirchhoff, Caleb (Brooke) Kirchhoff, Ryan Kirchhoff, Reid Kirchhoff, Todd Lyon, Crystal (Jared) Sheets, Aimee Bredehoeft, Kali Maclean; great grandchildren. Zoey Pratt, Jackson Reider, Abby Moore, Jocelyn Kirchhoff, Easton Sheets, Creyton Sheets. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 at Salem United Church of Christ, 1500 Main St., Higginsville, with Rev. Joyce Holley officiating & Doris Jane Stoner, organist. Friends may call 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Salem United Church. The Family suggests memorials to the church or Alzheimer's Association, Heart of America Alzheimer's Chapter, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, Kansas 66208-0076. Honorary pallbearers will be W.W.'s grandchildren. A private Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Higginsville City Cemetery.
