Bernice Shier

Lillie Bernice Shier (Maycock), 92 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville. She was born Sunday, October 30, 1932 in Dover, Missouri, to the late William Maycock and the late Letha (Ryun) Maycock. She graduated from Dover High School and married, Eugene Shier, on November 20, 1955. Together, they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on January 4, 2015. Throughout her life, she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, she held many roles over the years working at the local sale barn in the concession stand, boxing apples in the fall for local orchards, and serving more than 20 years for Lafayette County spraying for noxious weed control. She also worked as a cook for Camp Wonderland and loved serving all the campers. She spent her entire life in the Higginsville and Mayview area, where she was deeply rooted in the community. A passionate gardener, she grew bountiful produce and sold fresh vegetables to local grocery stores in earlier years. She was also an expert canner, known for filling shelves with homemade goods each season. Her hobbies included quilting, embroidery, and cheering on her brothers and family at the dirt race track. racing was a family tradition she loved to support. Above all, she cherished her time with her grandchildren and took great joy in being surrounded by family. Her strength, warmth, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her son, Bill (Michelle) Shier of Higginsville; two daughters, Patricia (David) Hayes of Higginsville and Cynthia (Larry) Morris of Higginsville; one brother, Donald (Shirley) Maycock of Waverly, MO; nine grandchildren, Billy (Chris) Wilson, Jeremy (Cassie) Hayes, Zac Hayes, Marcus Hayes, Shelby (Zach) Fisher, Ross (Brooke) Shier, Zoey Shier, Ryun (Megan) Morris, Austin (Christy) Morris; four sister-in-law’s, Pat Maycock, Louise Shier, Lois Heiple, Brenda Maycock; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Shier; five brothers, Junior Maycock, Tommy Maycock, Jack Maycock, Larry Maycock and Kenny Maycock; one sister, Elaine Murry. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Central Christian Church, located at 16 W. 20th St. in Higginsville. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM on Saturday. Interment will be in the Dover Cemetery. Casket Bearers: Zach Fisher, Marcus, Hayes, Zac Hayes, Austin Morris, Ryun Morris, Ross Shier. Honorary Casket Bearers: Jeremy Hayes, Gary McCulluch, Bob Shier, Billy Wilson. Memorials may be made out to Dover Cemetery.
