Clydia Sue "Susie" Baker

Susie Baker was born Clydia Sue McConnaughey on February 14, 1942. She was the baby of eight and our grandmother promised her doctor that if he safely delivered her, she would name the baby after him. So Dr. Clyde did his job and Clydia quickly became Susie to all her family. Susie was born and raised in Rogers, Arkansas. She was a true Arkansas girl. Her family farm was located in what is now Beaver Lake. The family was forced to move to town when the lake was built. Mom was full of stories of all the love and laughter that filled that two story home that my Grandad remodeled and worked on constantly. She was a popular gal, active in band and was the drum majorette. She was a twirler and always loved to remind us of that. Susie married Franklin Baker on September 25, 1959. They had 3 children, Lance Ross (who died as a newborn), Sally Lin and Justin Slade. Susie worked at Hallmark Cards doing data entry until Slade was born, then she was a housewife, mom, assistant barn builder, painter, yard mower, and her favorite pastime of goat keeper. She loved being outdoors, cooking for family and friends, playing with her goats, cats, and dogs; and of course a good cold beer. That all being said, her most favorite thing in the whole world was watching the Kansas City Chiefs. She loved the Chiefs and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Football season was her favorite but she was an avid sports fan and loved the Royals as well. In her later life, watching and being with her grandkids was one of her favorite treats. She was extremely proud of their accomplishments. Jenny, Shawna, Lane, Jackson and Rylan filled her life with immense joy. Susie passed away on Wed, June 27, 2024 after a very short illness. Susie is survived by her daughter, Sally (Scot) Soendker; her son, Slade (Sallie) Baker; granddaughter, Shawna Soendker; grandsons, Lane (Kirby) Soendker Jackson Baker; and great-grandson, Rylan Soendker. She had many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son, Lance; granddaughter, Jenny and seven siblings. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home located at 1600 Main St. in Higginsville. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Everyone is invited to wear their favorite Kansas City Chiefs shirt or jersey. Memorials may be made to Children's Mercy Hospital.
