Donald Edward "Donnie" Fisher

Donald Edward Fisher, 79 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Centerpoint Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1943 in Higginsville and was the son of the late Elmer Fisher and the late Grace Fisher (Burns). Donnie grew up in Higginsville next to the city lake where his love for the outdoors began. He enlisted in the Air Force where he served many years. He married Janet (Penn) Fisher on December 28, 1963. They were married 57 wonderful years. After Donnie’s military service, they moved back to Higginsville in 1968. Don and Janet worked side by side farming and continuing the family legacy of Fisher's Furniture, supplying the community and surrounding areas with quality furniture. Don handled ordering of inventory, clerical, and sales until his retirement in 2019. He loved working in the store and helping customers furnish their homes. He would visit with customers and help them make selections; he truly enjoyed serving this community as a local business owner. When Donnie wasn’t hunting or fishing you could find him playing cards with family and friends, building in his wood shop or searching for a bargain at a garage sale. Although the business took up a lot of their time, nothing was more important to Donnie than his family. He will be dearly missed and forever in the hearts of his family and friends. Surviving are one son, Scott (Chari) Fisher of Higginsville; one grandson, Zach (Shelby) Fisher of Higginsville; one granddaughter, Ashley (Michael) Brown of Huntsville, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, DaMonte' Fisher, Madison McCandless, Henry Fisher, and Ollie Fisher; special friend, Betty Downing of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond Fisher; his wife, Janet; and one son, Gregory Fisher. He will be lying in repose for viewing from 4-8PM on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home. The family will host a visitation to receive friends from 4-8PM at The Shed 7171 Blackjack Rd. on May 3, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 4, 2020 at Stewart-Hoefer Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Goughnour officiating. Interment will follow in the City Cemetery with military honors. Casket Bearers: Jeff Bates, Josh Durry, Kenny Gassen, David Lewis, Scott Rasa, Todd Ware. Honorary Casket Bearers: Elden Knipmeyer, Warren Hawthorne and Terry McCormack. Memorial contributions may be made to Garrett Moore Memorial FFA Scholarship.
