Kathryn "Katie" Martin-Pflugh

Kathryn Louise Martin-Pflugh, 75 of Higginsville, Missouri passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021, at her home. She was born Saturday, August 4, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri, and was the daughter of the late Lee McRae and the late Florence (Phelps) McRae. Katie was a graduate of Odessa High School and lived most of her life in the Odessa area. In 1963 she married Steven Martin and from this thirty-year union three children were born. She worked most of her life in the insurance industry as an insurance underwriter, retiring with Quest Diagnostics. On September 15, 2008 she married John Pflugh. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2020. Katie was a member of the American Business Women's Association and a very active member of Mt. Tabor Methodist Church. She enjoyed serving and helping people. She donated much of her time volunteering to help families with meals. In her free time she enjoyed crafts, sewing, and loved being outdoors. She loved animals and nature. Katie and John could always be found together in the garden or doing yard work. They loved spending time together making wine and going to dances. She developed a passion for dancing from her earlier days loving to roller skate with the kids. Katie will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and community. Surviving are two daughters, Lyanna (Wayne) Hamlin of Oak Grove, MO; Lorrie Piercy (John Irelan) of Odessa, MO; one son, Jim (Cathy) Martin of Corder, MO; one sister, Cheryl (John) Jungeblut of Higginsville; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brother, Richard McRae; and grandchild, Lauren Raye Brockert. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the Missouri Veterans Chapel with John Churchill officiating. She will be laid to rest in the columbarium wall with John, following the service. The family was not able to have a celebration when John passed, so following the service, the family will receive friends for a celebration of Katie and John's lives with a luncheon at 12:00 PM - Fairground Park Community Building 810 W. 29th St. Higginsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Mt. Tabor Methodist Church. The family would also like to thank the church ladies of Mt. Tabor Methodist Church for their love and help in handling the luncheon.
